Cville Go Green

Cville Go Green Fest will take place on Saturday, July 7th from 10am to 2pm at Snow’s Garden Center.  Dixon Disposal and Snow’s Garden Center are sponsoring this event to increase our communities’ eco-awareness.   There will be plenty of food, eco-themed games, a moon bounce, music, and lots of family fun.   Z-95 will be broadcasting LIVE!  We’ll have FREE FOOD and lots of give-aways and the CASPCA will bring their furry friends.  Organizations such as LEAP and APM Energy will be in attendence with information on how you can save energy in your home.

“We want to remind people that Recycling isn’t the only thing they can do,” said Mike Dixon, owner of Dixon Disposal, a 2nd generation local trash business.  “We want to help folks realize new ways to reduce their waste and reuse certain products.”  A little over 2 years ago, Dixon Disposal began utilizing a new process that is now included in their regular trash service called Single Stream Recycling.  When using Dixon’s service, you can put all of your trash in one can – no separating or sorting – and most of it will be recycled.  “We’re trying to do our part to make the world a cleaner and greener place,” states Dixon.

Corbin Snow, from the 4th generation of Snow’s who have operated the local Garden Center and Landscaping Service, is a different sort of  ”Green”.  “We offer Charlottesville plants, trees, and flowers here at the Garden Center,”

Snow states.  “We have all the tools folks need to plant their own vegetables and fruits, catch rainwater for use, and make compost of their waste.”  Snow’s has been making yards in Charlottesville ‘nature beautiful’ for several decades.  Aligning themselves with the earth-conscious was only natural.

Both Snow and Dixon are community-supporting businesses, so they decided to join together for a family-oriented event that will increase awareness of the need to REDUCE REUSE and RECYCLE.  The Cville Go Green Fest.  Check back with http://cvillegogreen.com for more information and to read blogs from earth-conscious people with eco-friendly ideas.

Dixon Disposal

Dixon Disposal provides courteous and dependable curbside collection and recycling services to homes and businesses in the Charlottesville area and surrounding counties. Family owned and operated, their safe and friendly drivers provide dependable waste and recycling collection, while their professional customer service staff is trained and standing by to answer all of your service-related questions.

If you are a customer of Dixon Trash Disposal, you’ll be happy to know that your garbage will not be dumped into landfill. Thanks to their relationship with van der Linde Recycling, Dixon Disposal’s service for trash removal will help reduce their customers’ impact on the environment by allowing the majority of their garbage to be recycled. The service is called Single Stream Recycling (also known as “fully commingled”). This refers to a system in which all paper fibers and containers are mixed together in a collection truck, instead of being sorted into separate commodities by the resident and handled separately throughout the collection process. In single stream, both the collection and processing systems are designed to handle this fully commingled mixture of recyclables. Residential single-stream programs have greatly increased the recycling rates, recovering as much as three times the amount of recyclable materials. van der Linde’s “Monster Green Machine” can process 100 tons of trash per hour, and recycle the majority of it.

We hope that in the past 100 years we’ve contributed to the growth of Charlottesville – or at the very least, made it more colorful and beautiful by doing what we do.
